Association History

You have to know where you’ve been to know where you are going. Kappa holds a special place in its heart for Fraternity history, but every association of our organization has unique beginnings of its own. Each plays a part in shaping us today and continuing the Kappa tradition beyond college.

We are 91, well the association is at least!

Established in April 1925, the Miami Alumnae Association consists of alumnae members of Kappa Kappa Gama ranging from  newly graduated seniors to 75-year members.  The alumnae association supports the Delta Kappa chapter at the University of Miami in nearby Coral Gables.  Meetings are held once a month from September through May.

The Delta Kappa chapter at the University of Miami began in January of 1927 as the local sorority, Lambda Phi, with seven women students. Their colors were coral and blue with the coral vine selected as their flower. The members of Lambda Phi from the previous 11 years were initiated into Kappa Kappa Gamma in 1938. By then, some of the members lived in other cities but were invited to join at the nearest active chapter. In 2013, Delta Kappa celebrated their 75th Anniversary with a luncheon at the Coral Gables Country Club, the location of the initiation of the first class of Delta Kappa.  Over 100 alumnae joined in the festivities.  New friendships were made and old friendships rekindled. Representatives from the University of Miami applauded our accomplishments throughout our long history.  Even Sebastian, the Ibis, joined us as we sang the 'Pat' song.
